CSRECL IT Sessions

During April, May and June 2005, the Community Development Team held a series of free IT Taster Sessions in Falkirk, Stirling and Alloa. The purpose of the sessions was to start addressing the apparently small numbers of BME individuals attending ICT courses and facilities in the area: we purposefully targeted BME groups and individuals directly, inviting them to register with the sessions.

The sessions were designed to introduce first-time learners to PC practical knowledge as well as helping those who already had basic IT knowledge extend their skills. We also wanted to gauge the interest of local residents in taking up further education courses, not just in ICT subjects but in a wider range of subject areas.

The classes were delivered by volunteer tutors from the local area, all of whom had previous experience in either IT teaching or facilitation, and proved to be very popular with most of the places scooped up.

Participants who attended the classes were awarded programme certificates in recognition of the progress they had made.

CSRECL followed the sessions with 2 Information Exchange Forums, one in Falkirk and one held in Clackmannanshire. More information of these events can be seen on the Information Exchange Forums page.

"I'm really pleased to have done the course otherwise I would have stayed scared of computers. My son is now telling me to get my own!"
