Fundraising Training
Date:
19-20th April 2006
Venue: CVS Falkirk

12 people from Minority Ethnic communities in and around the Forth Valley
area attended our 2-day intensive fundraising training course, facilitated by Firoze Manji from the organisation Fahamu (20
people registered). The training course was aimed at assisting Minority Ethnic (ME) communities gain the tools to increase
their funding base and build group capacity. Along with practical skills such as project development, funding research and
writing proposals, the course also included input from representatives from Falkirk Council External Funding Unit and Voluntary
Action Fund, who gave information on local authority and government funding,
giving participants an opportunity to understand fundraising from the funder’s point of view.
Evaluation
10
out of the 12 participants completed evaluation sheets:
-
100% felt the course had met their expectations
and stated how they were going to use knowledge gained to assist
the running of their community groups / organisations;
-
100% stated they were looking for funds or in a group looking for funds;
100% said they felt more confident with applying after the course.

Impact of Fundraising Training
The success of this training was in the
acquisition of skills to develop fundraising proposals and to write applications, as well as a clear shift of understanding
fundraising from being about ‘the money’ to being about ‘the cause’, thereby generating a healthy discussion on
some of the ethics involved.

have a good idea now how to write my proposal.
Not a clue before”

“Was
pleasantly surprised with how much I’ve learned”
-

topics were well covered. I’ve gained more confidence and motivation to
navigate the world of funding”
-
“Good
balance between theory, practical exercises and funders being present”

far more that will help for future applications. Got some very helpful tips”
- “If we can find funding, this course will prove to be a great gateway
